Q: I know Drano® products can be used in sinks and showers, but I’ve never been sure about the toilet. Will they unclog a toilet? Are they safe to use in a toilet?
A: The only Drano® product recommended for use in slow-running toilets is Drano® Prevention. The microorganisms in Drano® Prevention will break down organic matter in pipes (this matter can slow water flow). One important thing to note: Drano® Prevention will not open a completely clogged toilet. Also, other Drano® clog removers are not recommended for use in toilets. The plumbing configuration in toilets is not conducive to using these products.
To use Drano® Prevention, simply flush two capfuls of the product formula down the toilet for three consecutive days. Do this before leaving for work or going to bed, as it’s best to avoid flushing your toilet for six to eight hours after each treatment. (If you’re at home and awake after adding the formula to your toilet, you’ll need a strong bladder!) In the future, you can use Drano® Prevention every month or so to help prevent clogging.
